Translator Selection
The first step in quality assurance is careful translator selection. Prospective translators are screened not only for language ability but also for technical knowledge and ability to follow instructions. Applicants take standardized tests in their area of expertise (pharmaceuticals, chemicals, medical devices, legal, financial, IT, telecommunications), which are then evaluated by our Lead Editors. Only a small percentage of applicants meet our quality standards.
McElroy Translation guidelines and style sheets are issued to translators, and their use is monitored by the Editing Department. Incorporated into our workflow-oversight application is a rating feature so that every job turned in by a translator receives a rating from the editor. This is a useful tool for all translators, helping them to maintain a consistent high quality in their work. For quality considerations, McElroy endeavors to use the same translators for each client.
McElroy has an excellent reputation among linguists and other contractors—for providing clear instructions and training and for on-time payments—which enables us to recruit and retain the best in the industry.
Complete a short registration to review the detailed checklist McElroy uses to complete linguist interviews, after initial translator CV/resume screening. Note, this evaluation checklist includes linguistic quality testing and references. This usually involves verification of past experience, and possibly education and/or security status.
