Processes Overview
To optimize processing a large and varied volume of translations, McElroy Translation has developed unique workflow and management processes for both smaller translation orders, such as patents or contracts, and for large complex projects, such software localization. The following outline describes the key components of the processes that are vital to the success of any translation or localization project.
McElroy’s Workflow Systems
McElroy designed, built, and implemented its own translation workflow tool in 1999, when no other such tools were available on the market, and it was ported to Microsoft SQL Server in 2005. It manages straightforward document translation projects well and enables McElroy staff to respond immediately to client inquiries with real-time information. Additionally, it provides a mechanism to manage fluctuating work volumes and offers deadline forecasting capabilities.
More recently McElroy has added the power of Idiom’s WorldServer to our workflow system. It allows us to design highly customizable workflows and integrates with clients’ enterprise content management systems for large-scale localization projects. With the integration of WorldServer, McElroy can handle higher volumes, more complex projects, and tighter turnaround times through the automation of many non-linguistic tasks.
Linguists
McElroy’s IT department has developed a Service Hub to effectively manage the many functions associated with a large and ever-changing database of linguists and other contractors. This system incorporates capabilities not found in other systems so that our Project Management Office (PMO) can more efficiently assign projects to the best linguistic talent for any given project. PMO staff can also use their time more effectively in the areas that demand careful human attention, e.g., recruiting, qualifying and managing linguistic and service talent. Quality
McElroy Translation uses several metrics to measure performance and ensure high quality and timeliness. Our system is a constant quality control process. What that means is that quality and accuracy are monitored throughout every stage of a translation project. In-Country Reviews
The overarching goal of in-country review is to gain local acceptance for the product or product materials in the target market through the reviewers' linguistic and product expertise. The goals and expectations of the reviewers should be established as early in the process as possible, since this task is rarely the person's core function.
