ATA at 50: A Family Reunion

by Olga Pechnenko-Kopp, CEO

The American Translators Association (ATA) had its 50th(!) anniversary conference in the Big Apple last month. What a perfect place for it! New York is famous for bringing different cultures together and this time was no exception.

The conference lasted 2.5 days and offered sessions for both translators and translation companies. One of my favorite sessions was presented by Renato Beninatto of milengo. Like Renato himself, it was innovative and fun, but also challenged a few traditional paradigms or dogmas as he called them. He discussed his three translation industry dogmas in detail and argued that those translators and translation companies that will make the change will be profitable in the future and those that don't will be left behind. There is information from his presentation on his blog.

In addition to learning from the many presentations, McElroy Translation attended a reception for language service providers on our first night, and I was fortunate to meet colleagues and translators from all over the world. Attending that reception and spending time at the McElroy booth, where we revealed our McElroy HUB, gives us a chance to greet and thank our existing translators from around the world. It reminded me of a family reunion, because we work so much with them, but we only get to see them once a year.

Vendors who came to our booth had the opportunity to sign up for McElroy HUB, our vendor management system. For more information and to sign up, translators can go to our website.
