Fisher Pressure Equipment Directive Documentation
1000 Documents into Eleven Languages for the E.U.
THE CHALLENGE
Emerson Process Management was challenged to comply with new standards developed by the European Union(EU) to insure control valves, regulators, and instruments produced by the Fisher Division of Emerson were available to their European market. The European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) focuses on hazards caused by pressure equipment, and manufacturers worldwide must comply to continue to do business in Europe. Translated product information is required for each target market. A Fisher valves taskforce was established to study the law and determine compliance strategies. The project was to localize over 1000 PED documents into 11 languages. Some of Fisher’s customers began demanding compliance before the compulsory compliance date was to take effect.
THE SOLUTION
Fisher selected McElroy Translation as their preferred partner to provide localization for this global initiative. We responded with a dedicated team for the Fisher account to insure high quality and on-time delivery, enabling Fisher to retain and grow their European business.
The project scope, budget, and schedule were defined and a detailed localization plan developed. Compliance was achieved through changes in the way Fisher prepares technical files, procures materials, and enters orders, and McElroy’s strict adherence to translation guidelines for product documentation. We worked closely with Fisher’s in-country review team to successfully integrate preferred terminology into a customized glossary. This glossary ensured that industry-specific and product-specific terminology were accurately and consistently applied to all of the PED documentation.
THE BENEFITS
Fisher Valve Facilities now proudly conforms to the European PED with its entire product line at http://www.fisherregulators.com/products/PED/, and Emerson Process Management facilities worldwide met a critical deadline for supplying equipment to process industries in Europe. Based on the successful results, Fisher has decided to expand its partnership with us to encompass all of their translation and web localization needs.
