A Message from the President

Quality is often in the eye of the beholder... the client, that is! A client who requires rapid feedback from customer surveys in foreign markets has a different set of priorities than a law firm filing a high–profile patent invention. McElroy has developed more flexible quality assurance paradigms to match the variety of ways in which our clients define quality. We are moving toward a more front–loaded QA system and harnessing the interactive and collaborative capabilities of translators and editors through a server–based translation environment. Still, for many clients, this progress remains ultimately contingent on the role of the technical translator. E. Ray Collins describes in his article the function of technical editing in translation workflow when stringent standards apply. Yet again technology and progress work hand in hand with the skills of human specialists.  –Shelly Priebe, President
